Playing system: Dutch Swiss to 11 rounds.
Rate of play: 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, then 15 minutes per player plus 30 seconds from the first move.
Characteristics: Open Tournament, every National Federation may register so many player as it wants, if they have at least 2000 points in the current Fide Rating List. Every player must show the corresponding registration, done by a federation in order with FIDE.

Rights: Seven first players in the final ranking qualify for the 128 players FIDE World Cup, corresponding to next World Championship cycle. If a draw occurs for two or more qualification places, games to 15 minutes per player will be developed, with a plus of 10 seconds from the first move.

A player may not award two prizes. If a player awards both cathegory and general prizes, the highest one will be priorized, then ladies, age prize and then rating prize.
The Junior Panamerican Champion, a player chosen by the Continental President, five players from Zone 2.1, two players from Zone 2.2 and three players from Zone 2.3, 2.4 and 2.5 (registered by the corresponding Zonal President) will receive accommodation, provided by the Continental organization.
The Continental organization offers the following accomodation, including lodging for 13 days and 12 nights, with breakfast and taxes.
